Novel electrodiagnostic provocative techniques for the diagnosis of suspected tarsal tunnel syndrome

چکیده
Abstract Background Electrodiagnostic tests (EDXTs) have been considered the gold standard method for diagnosis of tarsal tunnel syndrome (TTS); however, definitive has not yet discovered. Our aim was to develop new nerve conduction provocative techniques in double and single leg stance as well combined ankle dorsiflexion with foot eversion accompanied by compression suspected TTS. Results Routine studies (NCSs) using medial plantar (MP) lateral (LP) nerves had a 60.9% sensitivity The diagnostic increased when combining three novel reaching 82.6% 78.3% either MP or LP NCSs respectively. further reach 100% considering latency amplitude. Conclusion full TTS reached battery tests. proposed workup this study recommends these biomechanically challenging complete especially symptomatic patients negative routine

Posterior tarsal tunnel syndrome: diagnosis and treatment.
BACKGROUND Posterior tarsal tunnel syndrome is an uncommon clinical entity which is sometimes misdiagnosed in patients with pain of the retromalleolar region and the plantar aspect of the foot. Surgical intervention is recommended for correctly diagnosed posterior tarsal tunnel syndrome. METHODS Selective literature review. RESULTS Surgical treatment is indicated in the presence of dysesthe...

BACKGROUND Determining the validity of current median sensory nerve conduction techniques for diagnosis of carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS). METHODS Eighty five patients with clinical diagnosis of CTS were compared with the same number of healthy people. The validity of electrodiagnostic tests were compared in a case-control manner. These electrodiagnostic techniques included long-segment, short-...

In 14 patients tarsal tunnel syndrome was associated with varus heels and pronated, splayed forefeet. Review of the literature and the author's experience suggest that these conditions may be a common cause of the tarsal tunnel syndrome. Treatment of fixed varus deformities of the heel by outer heel wedges has been shown to be ineffective. Although outer heel wedges provide symptomatic relief i...
متن کاملTarsal Tunnel Syndrome
The tarsal tunnel syndrome consists of a complex of symptoms affecting the foot and is thought to be due to a compression neuropathy of the posterior tibial nerve within the fibro-osseous “ tunnel “ that lies beneath the flexor retinaculum on the medial side of the ankle. No comprehensive description of this condition can be found until 1962, when two isolated cases were reported (Keck 1962, La...

Tarsal tunnel syndrome characterises a complex of symptoms that result from compression of the posterior tibial nerve as it passes through the fibro-osseus tunnel located beneath the flexor retinaculum on the medial aspect of the ankle.' The syndrome has been described in several case reports and review articles24 since Keck's5 and Lam's6 original case reports in 1962. Whereas other nerve entra...
